Biography
Catriona Mackenzie is an international soloist, collaborative pianist, and educator originally from the Highlands of Scotland. Recent concert highlights include recitals in The Royal Albert Hall, King’s Place, St John’s Smith Square, The Usher Hall, St Giles’ Cathedral and Paxton House as well as concerto performances with Edinburgh City Orchestra, The Inverness Symphony Orchestra and The Highland Chamber Orchestra. In 2024 she was an active participant at Klaipeda Piano Masters in Lithuania, where she performed in 5 concert halls across the country.
A sought-after chamber musician, Catriona is a member of The Phoenix Duo with American ‘cellist Josiah Duhlstine, exploring not only some of the classical ‘cello sonata repertoire but that of living British composers too, as well as their own arrangements of traditional Scottish and American music. In 2021 they won the Louis Carus’ Duo Ensemble Prize and were accepted onto the selective Live Music Now Scotland Scheme. Catriona is also a part of “EMPOWER: Women Changing Music” regularly performing works by female composers alongside flautist Sinead Walsh and Oboist Hannah Seymour.
Catriona is a passionate song pianist and has recently been a prize-winner at the Royal Academy of Music Schumann Lieder Competition, and the Edith Poulsen prize, and was finalist in the Ashburnham English Song Competition. She is also a Leeds Lieder Young Artist and was an active member of the exclusive Song Circle and Academy Voices at The Royal Academy of Music during her studies.
Catriona graduated with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music, London, where she studied with Anna Tilbrook and Malcolm Martineau and was awarded an additional diploma for an outstanding final recital. She was financially supported by the Royal Academy of Music, The Duncraig Educational Trust, The Sir James Caird Scholarship, The Cross Trust, and The Dewar Awards. Previously, she studied with James Willshire at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and St Mary’s Music School, as well as privately with Gintaras Janusevicius. She is currently a scholarship student on the Artist Diploma course at RCS studying with Jayson Gillham and Nicholas Ashton.
